Description

This Instant Pot Dulce de Leche recipe transforms sweetened condensed milk into a rich, creamy caramel spread using a quick pressure cooking method. Perfect for desserts, toast toppings, or as a sweet dip, this easy and mess-free technique yields velvety dulce de leche in just over an hour.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 15 ounces can sweetened condensed milk (use 1 or 2 cans depending on desired quantity)
  • Water (enough to submerge the jar up to 1 inch below the lid inside the Instant Pot)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the condensed milk: Open the can(s) of sweetened condensed milk and transfer the contents into a heat-safe glass jar with a tightly sealed lid to prevent water from entering during cooking.
  2. Set up the Instant Pot: Place the Instant Pot trivet inside the pot and set the jar(s) of condensed milk on top of it, ensuring they are stable.
  3. Add water: Pour water into the Instant Pot until it reaches about 1 inch below the lid of the jar, ensuring the jar remains upright and submerged for even cooking.
  4. Pressure cook: Close the Instant Pot lid securely, make sure the steam release valve is set to ‘Sealing’, and set the pressure cooker to High Pressure for 35 minutes. The pot will take approximately 30 minutes to build pressure before the cooking timer starts.
  5. Release pressure and cool: Once the cooking cycle is complete, carefully perform a quick release by moving the valve to ‘Venting’. Open the lid and carefully remove the jar(s) from the hot water using tongs or an oven mitt. Let the dulce de leche cool to room temperature; it will thicken further as it cools.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Once cooled, use the dulce de leche as a spread, dessert topping, or ingredient in your favorite recipes. Store leftovers in the jar with a tight lid in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Be sure to use a heat-safe glass jar with a tight lid to prevent water from seeping into the dulce de leche during pressure cooking.
  • Do not use plastic containers as they may melt or leach chemicals under pressure cooking conditions.
  • If using two cans, you can either cook them separately or together if your jar can hold both portions without being overfilled.
  • Allow the dulce de leche to cool completely to thicken and develop its characteristic caramel texture.
  • Store any leftovers refrigerated and use within 1–2 weeks for best quality.
