Ingredients

For the Firecracker Marinade:

  • 4 salmon fillets (skin-on or skinless)
  • ¼ cup hot sauce (like Sriracha or buffalo sauce)
  • 3 tbsp honey or brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional for extra heat)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

For Cooking:

  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for pan-searing)
  • 1 tbsp butter (for added richness)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Marinate the Salmon:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together hot sauce, honey, soy sauce, vinegar, garlic powder, paprika, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or zip-top bag and pour the marinade over them. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes (or up to 1 hour for deeper flavor).

Cook the Salmon:

Pan-Seared Method:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Remove salmon from the marinade, letting excess drip off. Sear for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown.
  3. Lower the heat, add butter, and spoon it over the salmon as it finishes cooking.

Baked Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place the salmon fillets on the sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork.
  3. Optionally, broil for 1-2 minutes at the end for a caramelized finish.

Serve & Garnish:

  1. Drizzle any remaining marinade over the cooked salmon.
  2. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions for extra flavor and crunch.
  3. Serve with steamed rice, roasted veggies, or a fresh salad.

Tips & Variations

  • Swap salmon for shrimp or chicken for a different take.
  • Add a squeeze of fresh lime juice for an extra zesty kick.
