Description

This Strawberry Pretzel Salad is a delightful layered dessert featuring a crunchy pretzel crust, a creamy sweet cream cheese layer, and a fresh strawberry gelatin topping. Perfect for summer gatherings or any occasion, it combines sweet, salty, and fruity flavors with a refreshing texture that everyone will love.

Ingredients

Pretzel Crust

  • 2 cups pretzels
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup butter, melted

Strawberry Jello

  • 2-3 ounces box strawberry jello (vegetarian version)
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • ½ pound fresh strawberries, sliced

Cream Cheese Layer

  • 8 ounces block cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces Cool Whip

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make for easy removal later.
  2. Make the Pretzel Crust: Crush the pretzels by placing them in a Ziplock bag and rolling over with a rolling pin until finely crushed. In a mixing bowl, combine the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and brown sugar. Press this mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 10 minutes to set the crust, then allow it to cool completely to ensure the cream cheese layer adheres well.
  3. Prepare the Strawberry Jello: In a medium bowl, pour the strawberry jello powder into 2 cups of boiling water, stirring thoroughly until fully dissolved. Set this aside and allow it to cool to room temperature so it doesn’t melt the cream cheese layer when poured later.
  4. Make the Cream Cheese Layer: In a large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with granulated sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Gently fold in the Cool Whip until the mixture is uniform and fluffy. Spread this creamy mixture evenly over the cooled pretzel crust. Refrigerate this layer for 30 minutes to help it set firmly before adding the next layer.
  5. Combine Strawberries and Jello: Stir the sliced fresh strawberries into the cooled strawberry jello mixture. Carefully pour this strawberry-jello mixture over the chilled cream cheese layer, spreading evenly. Return the pan to the refrigerator and chill for 3-4 hours until the jello is fully set and firm.
  6. Serve: Once the dessert is set, slice it into squares. Serve chilled for a refreshing and delicious treat that marries crunchy, creamy, and fruity elements perfectly.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for the smoothest texture.
  • Using vegetarian jello ensures the dessert is suitable for vegetarians.
  • Press the pretzel crust mixture firmly to avoid a crumbly base.
  • Allow the jello to cool completely before pouring over the cream layer to prevent melting.
  • For best results, refrigerate overnight.
