Description
Snowman Cookies are festive sugar cookies decorated with royal icing, marshmallows, and colorful candies to resemble adorable snowmen. Perfect for holiday celebrations and easy to make with store-bought or homemade ingredients, these cookies bring a cheerful touch to any gathering.
Ingredients
Cookie Base
- 16 round sugar cookies (store-bought or homemade)
Icing and Decorations
- 2 1/2 cups royal icing (store-bought or homemade)
- 16 marshmallows (cut in half if needed)
- 16 orange sprinkles
- M&Ms (different colors)
- black gel food coloring (or store-bought black icing tube)
Instructions
- Prepare the black icing: Measure 1/2 cup of royal icing separately and place it in a bowl. Use the food coloring gel to dye it black, mixing thoroughly until a deep black color is achieved. Transfer this black icing to a piping bag and cut off a very small tip for detailed decorating.
- Prepare the white icing: Add the remaining royal icing to a larger piping bag and snip off the tip to prepare for frosting the cookies.
- Frost the cookies: Using the white icing, frost each round sugar cookie generously, allowing the icing to drip over the sides to create a melted snow effect on each cookie.
- Add marshmallow and buttons: Immediately after frosting, place a marshmallow close to the edge of the cookie to serve as the snowman’s head. Use M&Ms to create the buttons vertically along the body on the cookie.
- Pipe arms: While the icing is still wet, pipe black stick arms floating out from the marshmallow head using the black icing.
- Decorate the face: Allow the cookies to set for 20-30 minutes to let the icing harden slightly. Then pipe two eyes and a mouth using the black icing. Attach an orange sprinkle nose to the face using a small dab of white icing as glue.
- Serve: Let the decorated cookies fully set if needed, then serve and enjoy these festive Snowman Cookies.
Notes
- Using store-bought cookies and royal icing can save time, but homemade versions provide a richer flavor.
- Allow the icing to partially set before decorating the face to prevent colors from bleeding.
- Cut marshmallows in halves if they are too large for smaller cookies.
- Use gel food coloring for vibrant black icing without altering the icing’s consistency.
- Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to 3 days.
