Description

This simple and delicious Roasted Plums recipe highlights the natural sweetness of ripe plums enhanced by brown sugar, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Perfect as a warm dessert or topping, these plums are baked until tender and caramelized, offering a cozy and flavorful treat in just 40 minutes.

Ingredients

Plums

  • 10 plums, halved and pitted

Sugar & Spices

  • ¼ cup brown sugar (or more, to taste)
  • 1 to 2 pinches cinnamon

Syrup

  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup (or more, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare it for roasting the plums evenly.
  2. Prepare the Baking Dish: Lightly grease a baking dish or spray it with non-stick spray. Ensure the dish is large enough so that plum halves can sit cut-side up without overlapping. If necessary, use two baking dishes to avoid crowding.
  3. Arrange the Plums: Place the halved and pitted plums cut side up in the prepared baking dish, spacing them evenly for uniform roasting.
  4. Add Sweeteners and Spice: Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the plums followed by cinnamon pinches for warmth. Drizzle the maple syrup generously over the tops to add a rich, sweet glaze.
  5. Roast the Plums: Bake the plums in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes. Check them for tenderness; super ripe plums may take less time to become soft and caramelized.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove the baking dish from the oven and let the roasted plums cool for about 5 minutes before serving. This also helps the flavors to settle, making them perfect to enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of brown sugar and maple syrup according to your sweetness preference.
  • Choose very ripe plums for quicker roasting and more natural sweetness.
  • Roasted plums can be served alone or as a topping for yogurt, pancakes, or ice cream.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container and refrigerated for up to 3 days.
  • For a vegan option, ensure the maple syrup is pure and not mixed with non-vegan additives.
