Description

This Quick & Easy Strawberry Compote Sauce is a luscious, versatile topping made with fresh or frozen strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and vanilla. It simmers gently to develop a thick, fruity sauce that’s partially pureed for a perfect balance of smoothness and texture. Ideal for pancakes, waffles, yogurt, ice cream, or desserts, it’s a simple homemade sauce that brightens up any dish in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Strawberry Compote Sauce

  • 2 cups strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 Tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Prepare Strawberries: If using fresh strawberries, thoroughly rinse and drain them, then remove stems and slice each strawberry in half. If using frozen strawberries, thaw them in the refrigerator and slice into halves or quarters if they are large.
  2. Mix Cornstarch Slurry: In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch and water to create a slurry that will help thicken the compote.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Pour the strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, and the cornstarch slurry into a saucepan.
  4. Heat and Boil: Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring frequently to prevent sticking or burning.
  5. Simmer to Thicken: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
  6. Blend Partially: Remove the sauce from heat. Pour half of the compote into a blender or food processor and puree until smooth. Stir the pureed berry mixture back into the remaining chunky compote for a balanced texture.
  7. Cool and Store: Refrigerate the compote until ready to use. It can be served chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For a thicker compote, simmer for a few extra minutes or increase cornstarch slightly.
  • You can adjust the sweetness by reducing or increasing sugar according to taste.
  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor.
  • This compote can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Freeze leftovers for longer storage; thaw before use.
