Ingredients
Brownie Batter
- 150 g Butter
- 250 g Dark chocolate
- 1 tsp Vanilla extract
- 4 Eggs
- 2 cups Granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup Cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup Flour
- 1/2 tsp Salt
Mix-ins
- 1 1/2 cups Oreos (cut into chunks)
- 100 g Chocolate chunks
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare skillet: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Lightly spray a 10-inch cast iron skillet with oil to prevent sticking.
- Melt chocolate and butter: In a small mixing bowl, combine the butter and dark chocolate. Melt together either in the microwave or over a double boiler (ben Marie). Allow the mixture to cool completely before proceeding.
- Mix wet ingredients and sugar: To the cooled chocolate mixture, add granulated sugar, salt, vanilla extract, and sifted cocoa powder. Whisk thoroughly until well combined and smooth.
- Add eggs: Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition to ensure a smooth batter.
- Add mix-ins: Chop additional dark chocolate into small to medium chunks. Break Oreo cookies into medium-sized pieces using your hands. Fold both chocolate chunks and Oreo pieces gently into the batter until evenly distributed.
- Add flour: Sift the flour into the mixture, then fold it in lightly to combine, being careful not to overmix as this can develop gluten and toughen the brownies.
- Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cast iron skillet. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the top of the brownies develop a crinkly crust and a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Top with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream and serve warm. Perfect to enjoy immediately with family or friends, making it a cozy and indulgent dessert experience.
Notes
- Be careful not to overmix the batter after adding the flour to keep the brownies fudgy.
- Cooking time may vary slightly depending on your oven; start checking around 30 minutes.
- Cool the chocolate and butter mixture completely before adding other ingredients to avoid cooking the eggs prematurely.
- Use a good-quality dark chocolate for the best rich flavor.
- The recipe yields a softer, fudgier brownie rather than a cakey one.
- For easy portioning, use a knife or spatula dipped in hot water between cuts.
