Description

These homemade Twix Bars feature a buttery shortbread crust topped with a rich, gooey caramel layer and finished with a smooth milk chocolate coating. Perfect for a sweet treat, this dessert combines classic flavors into a delicious, indulgent bar that’s easy to make and sure to satisfy your chocolate and caramel cravings.

Ingredients

Shortbread Crust

  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 ¼ cups flour
  • ⅔ cup butter, softened

Caramel Layer

  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk

Chocolate Topping

  • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350℉ and grease a 9×9 inch pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Make Shortbread Crust: In a small bowl, combine sugar and flour. Cut the softened ⅔ cup butter into the mixture using a butter knife, mixing until evenly sized crumbs form.
  3. Bake Crust: Press the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown.
  4. Cool Crust: Remove the pan from the oven and allow the crust to cool completely before adding the next layers.
  5. Prepare Caramel: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine ½ cup butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and sweetened condensed milk. Bring to a boil while stirring constantly to prevent burning. Continue to stir for an additional 5 minutes once boiling, then remove from heat and stir for 2-3 more minutes.
  6. Add Caramel to Crust: Pour the hot caramel mixture evenly over the cooled shortbread crust. Let it cool until firm, using the refrigerator to speed up the process if desired.
  7. Melt Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and vegetable oil. Microwave for 1 minute, then stir. Continue microwaving in 15-second intervals, stirring after each, until the chocolate mixture is smooth and fully melted.
  8. Top with Chocolate: Pour the melted chocolate evenly over the caramel layer and allow to cool and harden at room temperature or in the fridge.
  9. Slice and Serve: When the chocolate has hardened, use a warm knife to cut the bars into 9 squares for easier slicing and cleaner edges. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use a warm knife for clean cuts through the hardened chocolate layer.
  • Chilling the bars after adding the caramel and chocolate layers helps speed up setting times.
  • Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature or refrigerated for longer freshness.
  • For a gluten-free version, substitute regular flour with a gluten-free blend of similar quantity.
