Description

This Grilled Strawberries recipe features fresh strawberries skewered with basil leaves, brushed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, then quickly grilled to bring out their natural sweetness and add a smoky char. Perfect as a quick, elegant appetizer or dessert, these skewers balance fruity, herbal, and tangy flavors with a touch of charred aroma.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 10 large firm strawberries
  • 1 small bunch fresh basil
  • 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • Black pepper, freshly ground, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the strawberries: Rinse and dry the strawberries thoroughly. Remove the stems and cut each strawberry in half lengthwise to ensure even grilling.
  2. Skewer the strawberries: Gently slide each strawberry half onto metal or wooden skewers, placing a fresh basil leaf between each strawberry half. Arrange them so the flat cut sides face the same direction to optimize grill contact. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 15 minutes beforehand to prevent burning.
  3. Season: Using a pastry brush or drizzling gently, coat the flat sides of the strawberry halves with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Sprinkle freshly ground black pepper evenly over the skewers to add a hint of spice.
  4. Grill: Heat a stovetop grill pan over high heat until very hot. Place the skewers flat side down on the grill; a sizzling sound should indicate the right temperature. If not sizzling, wait until the grill is hotter. After about 30 seconds, reduce heat to medium and continue grilling for approximately 2 minutes until the strawberries develop distinct grill marks and soften slightly.
  5. Serve: Transfer the skewers to a plate and drizzle with any remaining balsamic vinegar for extra tang. Serve immediately, either on the skewers or removed for presentation.

Notes

  • Use firm strawberries to prevent them from falling apart on the grill.
  • Soaking wooden skewers prevents burning during grilling.
  • Adjust grilling time for softer or firmer texture according to preference.
  • Fresh basil adds a bright herbal contrast; substitute with mint if desired.
  • Serve as a light dessert or alongside grilled dishes for a fresh fruity component.
