Ingredients
Shredded Filo Mixture
- 1 1/2 cups shredded filo (or Kataifi)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/3 cup pistachio butter (or Biscoff)
Toppings and Garnish
- 1 bar dark chocolate (or your favorite type of chocolate)
- 7 strawberries (sliced or quartered)
- Chopped toasted pistachios (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filo Dough: Purchase shredded filo dough, about 454 grams pack, and use approximately 150 grams (1/3 of the pack). Thaw it in the fridge following package instructions. Once thawed, cut the filo into thin sections on a cutting board and separate the strands carefully using clean hands to ensure no clumps.
- Cook the Filo: Heat a pan over medium heat and melt 2 tablespoons of butter until it shimmers. Add the shredded filo and stir continuously for 5 to 10 minutes until the filo becomes crispy and lightly golden. Remove from heat and transfer to a bowl to cool.
- Melt the Pistachio Butter: Warm the 1/3 cup pistachio butter in the microwave or using a double boiler just until it becomes runny. Mix the melted pistachio butter into the cooled crispy filo to combine well.
- Melt the Chocolate: Use a microwave or double boiler to melt the chocolate bar until smooth and runny, ready for drizzling.
- Assemble the Dessert: In one large mason jar or two small jars, start layering the dessert by adding fresh strawberries first, followed by 2 to 3 tablespoons of the pistachio-filo mixture, then a drizzle of melted chocolate. Repeat these layers until the jar is full.
- Garnish and Serve: Top off the dessert with any remaining crispy filo and sprinkle with chopped toasted pistachios for added texture and flavor. Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- You can substitute pistachio butter with Biscoff spread if preferred.
- The shredded filo dough can typically be found in the frozen section of most grocery stores; brands like Krinos, Adonis, or Highland Farms are recommended.
- Ensure the filo strands are fully separated before cooking to achieve the best crispy texture.
- For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark chocolate, but milk or semi-sweet chocolate works as well.
- Serve this dessert promptly to maintain the crispiness of the filo.
