Description

Dubai Chocolate Dates is a delightful Middle Eastern dessert featuring Medjool dates generously filled with a pistachio butter and crispy shredded filo mixture, then coated in smooth dark chocolate. This recipe combines textures and flavors beautifully, offering a rich, nutty, and sweet treat perfect for sharing or serving at special occasions.

Ingredients

Filo Mixture

  • 3/4 cups shredded filo (or Kataifi)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • ⅓ cup pistachio butter (or Biscoff)

Dates

  • 11 Medjool dates (or however many you have filling for)

Chocolate Coating

  • 1 bar dark chocolate (or your favorite type of chocolate)
  • 1/2 tablespoon coconut oil (makes the chocolate shiny)
  • Crushed pistachios (optional)

Instructions

  1. Thaw and Prepare Filo: Follow the package instructions to thaw the shredded filo in the fridge until softened. Once ready, lay it out on a cutting board and slice it into thin strips to prepare for toasting.
  2. Separate Filo Strands: With clean hands, gently separate the filo strands to ensure there are no clumps and the pieces are thin and airy for an even crisp.
  3. Toast the Filo: Heat a pan over medium heat and melt the butter until shimmering. Add the shredded filo and stir continuously for 5 to 10 minutes until the filo turns golden and crispy without burning.
  4. Cool the Toasted Filo: Remove the pan from heat and transfer the toasted filo to a bowl. Allow it to cool to room temperature before mixing with pistachio butter.
  5. Combine with Pistachio Butter: Melt the pistachio butter either in the microwave or over a double boiler until smooth and runny. Mix it thoroughly with the cooled toasted filo, coating all the strands evenly.
  6. Melt Chocolate Coating: In a microwave or over a double boiler, melt the dark chocolate together with coconut oil until the mixture is smooth, shiny, and runny.
  7. Prepare Dates: Slice each Medjool date lengthwise, keeping one side intact, and carefully remove the pit to create a pocket for filling.
  8. Fill the Dates: Spoon the pistachio and filo mixture into the hollowed centers of each date, filling them generously but neatly.
  9. Dip Dates in Chocolate: Fully coat each stuffed date by dipping it into the melted chocolate. Place the coated dates carefully onto a parchment-lined baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  10. Garnish and Set: Sprinkle crushed pistachios on top of the chocolate-coated dates if desired. Freeze the dates until the chocolate is firmly set and enjoy your luxurious Dubai Chocolate Dates.
