Description
Cinnamon Baked Apples are warm, tender apples stuffed with a sweet spiced filling of brown sugar and cinnamon, then baked until soft and aromatic. This easy dessert brings all the flavors of apple pie with minimal effort.
Ingredients
- 4 large firm apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
- 1/4 cup raisins or chopped nuts (optional)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, divided
- 1/2 cup water or apple cider
- Optional toppings: whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or caramel sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Wash and core the apples, creating a cavity for the filling but leaving the bottoms intact.
- In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and raisins or nuts (if using).
- Stuff the filling mixture into the hollowed apples.
- Place the apples upright in a baking dish. Top each apple with a small pat of butter.
- Pour the water or apple cider into the bottom of the baking dish.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes, until apples are fork-tender but not mushy.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with optional toppings like whipped cream or ice cream.
Notes
- Use firm apples so they hold their shape during baking.
- Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your apples.
- Omit butter for a vegan version—use coconut oil or dairy-free margarine instead.
- Make ahead by prepping and stuffing the apples, then refrigerating until ready to bake.
- Try adding oats to the filling for a crisp-like texture.
