Description

Cinnamon Baked Apples are warm, tender apples stuffed with a sweet spiced filling of brown sugar and cinnamon, then baked until soft and aromatic. This easy dessert brings all the flavors of apple pie with minimal effort.

Ingredients

  • 4 large firm apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1/4 cup raisins or chopped nuts (optional)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, divided
  • 1/2 cup water or apple cider
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Wash and core the apples, creating a cavity for the filling but leaving the bottoms intact.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and raisins or nuts (if using).
  4. Stuff the filling mixture into the hollowed apples.
  5. Place the apples upright in a baking dish. Top each apple with a small pat of butter.
  6. Pour the water or apple cider into the bottom of the baking dish.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes, until apples are fork-tender but not mushy.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with optional toppings like whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes

  • Use firm apples so they hold their shape during baking.
  • Adjust sugar based on the sweetness of your apples.
  • Omit butter for a vegan version—use coconut oil or dairy-free margarine instead.
  • Make ahead by prepping and stuffing the apples, then refrigerating until ready to bake.
  • Try adding oats to the filling for a crisp-like texture.
