Description

Delight in a simple yet indulgent treat with Chocolate-Dipped Oranges. This recipe features fresh orange slices dipped halfway in rich, melted dark chocolate, combining citrusy brightness with deep cocoa flavor. Perfect for a snack, dessert, or elegant party treat, these chocolate-coated orange slices are easy to make using either a double boiler or microwave method for melting the chocolate.

Ingredients

Fruits

  • 2 oranges

Chocolate

  • 5.5 oz dark chocolate (about 1 cup when finely chopped)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the oranges: Peel the oranges and carefully remove as much of the thick white pith as possible, especially on the curved outside, to avoid bitterness. Separate the oranges into individual slices, ensuring they remain intact.
  2. Chop the chocolate: Finely chop the dark chocolate into small pieces, placing them into a heatproof bowl to ensure easy and even melting.
  3. Melt the chocolate (double boiler method): Fill a pot about halfway with water and bring to a gentle heat, making sure the water does not boil. Set the bowl with chocolate on top of the pot so the bowl’s bottom sits just above the water without touching it. Stir frequently to melt the chocolate slowly and smoothly, reducing heat or briefly removing the pot if the water starts simmering.
  4. Melt the chocolate (microwave method): Alternatively, place the finely chopped chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in short 20-second intervals. Stir well after each interval, stopping once most of the chocolate is melted, then stir until smooth to prevent burning.
  5. Dip the oranges: Immediately dip each orange slice halfway into the melted chocolate, coating well. Gently shake the slice over the bowl to remove excess chocolate for an even coating.
  6. Let set: Arrange the chocolate-coated orange slices on a prepared baking sheet and allow chocolate to set. Leave them at room temperature for 30–45 minutes or chill in the fridge for 15–20 minutes to speed up setting.

Notes

  • For best results, use high-quality dark chocolate with at least 60% cocoa content for balanced flavor.
  • Removing the thick white pith from the oranges reduces bitterness and ensures a sweeter bite.
  • Chocolate can also be tempered for a glossy finish, though it’s not necessary in this simple recipe.
  • Storage: Keep the dipped oranges refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • For variety, try using milk or white chocolate instead of dark chocolate.
