Description

These breakfast rolls are soft, fluffy, and easy to make, perfect for any morning meal. Filled with savory ingredients like scrambled eggs, cheese, and sausage, these rolls are customizable to your tastes. Ideal for brunch or a quick breakfast, they offer comfort and flavor in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup cooked breakfast sausage, crumbled (optional)
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  • Dissolve the yeast in warm water with a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, and remaining sugar. Add the milk, melted butter, eggs, and yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down dough, then roll it out into a rectangular shape on a floured surface.
  • Sprinkle fillings (sausage, cheese, etc.) over the dough.
  • Roll dough tightly into a log and slice into individual rolls.
  • Place rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a towel, and let rise for 20 minutes.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
  • Let rolls cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can use store-bought dough as a shortcut.
  • For a sweet version, try cinnamon, sugar, and butter as a filling.
  • For dairy-free or gluten-free versions, swap the butter and milk with suitable substitutes and use a gluten-free flour blend.
  • Rolls can be made ahead and frozen for later enjoyment.
