Description

This Blueberry Frozen Yogurt recipe offers a deliciously tangy and creamy treat made with fresh or frozen blueberries, monk fruit sweetener, and whole milk yogurt. It’s blended and then frozen using the Ninja Creami or any standard ice cream maker, resulting in a smooth, refreshing dessert perfect for warm days or a healthy dessert option.

Ingredients

Blueberry Mixture

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup monk fruit sweetener (or sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon water

Frozen Yogurt Base

  • 1 teaspoon agave syrup
  • 1 cup whole milk plain yogurt

Instructions

  1. Cook Blueberries: In a medium saucepan, combine the blueberries, monk fruit sweetener (or sugar), and water. Cook uncovered over medium-low heat, simmering and stirring frequently until the berries release their juice but are not fully softened, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  2. Cool and Blend: Allow the cooked blueberry mixture to cool completely. Then blend it in a blender until smooth. Press the blended mixture through a mesh strainer into a large bowl, discarding the pulp for a silky texture.
  3. Mix Ingredients: Stir the agave syrup and whole milk plain yogurt into the strained blueberry juice until fully combined. Pour the mixture into an empty Ninja Creami pint container.
  4. Freeze: Place the storage lid on the pint and freeze it flat (ensure the pint is level) for 24 hours to set properly.
  5. Prepare the Frozen Yogurt: After freezing, remove the lid from the pint. Assemble the bowl into the Ninja Creami machine as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Select the ‘LITE ICE CREAM’ setting to process.
  6. Re-spin if Needed: Once processing is complete, check the texture. If it looks crumbly, place it back in the machine and select the re-spin function to achieve a creamier consistency.
  7. Serve: Remove the frozen yogurt from the pint and serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
  8. Alternative Method: If using a standard ice cream maker, pour the prepared mixture into your ice cream maker and process according to the manufacturer’s instructions until fully frozen and creamy.

Notes

  • Ensure the blueberry mixture is completely cooled before blending to preserve yogurt texture.
  • Pressing the blended berries through a strainer improves smoothness by removing seeds and pulp.
  • Freezing the pint flat is crucial for even texture development.
  • Re-spinning in the Ninja Creami helps achieve the ideal creamy consistency if initial processing results in crumbliness.
  • Use whole milk yogurt for creamier texture; low-fat or non-dairy yogurts can be substituted but may affect creaminess.
  • Monk fruit sweetener is a low-calorie alternative to sugar, suitable for those reducing sugar intake.
