Description
A delicious and vibrant blackberry tart featuring a flaky homemade tart crust filled with a sweet and tangy blackberry mixture. Perfectly baked to bubbling perfection, this tart is an ideal dessert served warm with vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Tart Crust
- 1 tart crust shell (9 inch, homemade or store-bought)
Blackberry Filling
- 5 cups blackberries (fresh, not frozen)
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
Topping
- 1 to 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 1 tablespoon cold butter, chopped thinly
Instructions
- Prepare Tart Crust Shell: If making from scratch, follow your preferred tart crust recipe and prebake the 9 to 9.5 inch tart shell at 400°F for 20 to 30 minutes until lightly golden. Let it cool slightly before adding filling.
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven temperature to 400°F initially for prebaking the crust, then reduce to 350°F for baking the tart with filling.
- Make Blackberry Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of fresh blackberries with 1 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice, and 1 tablespoon lemon zest. Toss everything thoroughly until berries are well coated.
- Assemble Tart: Spoon the blackberry mixture into the cooled tart crust shell evenly. Arrange the remaining 1 cup of blackberries on top of the filling. Sprinkle 1 to 2 tablespoons of white sugar evenly over the berries, then scatter thinly chopped cold butter pieces on top.
- Bake Tart: Place the assembled tart on a rimmed baking sheet to catch juices and bake at 350°F for 30 to 40 minutes. Bake until the filling bubbles and the crust is golden. If the crust browns too quickly, cover loosely with aluminum foil.
- Serve: Allow the tart to cool slightly then serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a perfect finish.
Notes
- Using fresh blackberries provides the best texture and flavor compared to frozen.
- Prebaking the tart shell prevents a soggy bottom and ensures flakiness.
- Adjust sugar amount based on the sweetness of your berries.
- Covering with foil during baking protects the crust from burning.
- Serve warm to enjoy the melting butter and juicy filling, complemented well by vanilla ice cream.
