Description

Turkey Chili is a flavorful, hearty dish made with lean ground turkey, beans, tomatoes, and a blend of spices. This healthy twist on classic chili is packed with protein, fiber, and bold flavors, making it perfect for a comforting meal that’s both nutritious and satisfying.

Ingredients

1 lb ground turkey
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 bell pepper, diced
1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, adjust to taste)
Salt and pepper to taste
Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, avocado, cilantro

Instructions

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and bell pepper and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.

  1. Add garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  2. Add ground turkey, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned and cooked through.
  3. Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.
  4. Add beans, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Stir to combine.
  5. Bring the chili to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and cook uncovered for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  1. Use ground chicken or turkey sausage instead of ground turkey.
  2. Add corn kernels or diced zucchini for extra veggies.
  3. Substitute black beans with pinto beans or chickpeas.
  4. Spice it up with fresh jalapeños or hot sauce.
  5. Serve over rice, quinoa, or with tortilla chips.
