Description

Tiramisu is a classic Italian no-bake dessert made with espresso-soaked ladyfingers layered with a creamy mascarpone mixture and finished with a dusting of cocoa powder. Elegant yet simple, it’s rich, airy, and perfect for entertaining.

Ingredients

  1. 2430 ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
  2. 1 1/2 cups freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
  3. 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional, such as Kahlua or Marsala)
  4. 4 large egg yolks
  5. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  6. 8 oz mascarpone cheese
  7. 1 cup heavy cream
  8. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  9. Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting

Instructions

Brew espresso and let it cool. Stir in coffee liqueur if using.

  1. In a heatproof bowl over a double boiler, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Whisk mascarpone until smooth in a separate bowl.
  3. Beat heavy cream with vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  4. Fold egg mixture into mascarpone, then gently fold in whipped cream until combined.
  5. Quickly dip ladyfingers into cooled espresso (1–2 seconds each) and arrange in a single layer in an 8×8-inch dish.
  6. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  7. Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone cream.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  9. Before serving, dust generously with cocoa powder.

Notes

  1. Dip ladyfingers briefly—oversoaking makes them soggy.
  2. Tiramisu is best made a day ahead for flavors to meld.
  3. Omit liqueur for an alcohol-free version.
  4. Use pasteurized eggs or cook yolks over a double boiler for safety.
  5. Individual ramekins make elegant single-serve portions.
