Description
Tiramisu is a classic Italian no-bake dessert made with espresso-soaked ladyfingers layered with a creamy mascarpone mixture and finished with a dusting of cocoa powder. Elegant yet simple, it’s rich, airy, and perfect for entertaining.
Ingredients
- 24–30 ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
- 1 1/2 cups freshly brewed espresso or strong coffee, cooled
- 2 tbsp coffee liqueur (optional, such as Kahlua or Marsala)
- 4 large egg yolks
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 8 oz mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
Instructions
Brew espresso and let it cool. Stir in coffee liqueur if using.
- In a heatproof bowl over a double boiler, whisk egg yolks and sugar until pale and thickened. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Whisk mascarpone until smooth in a separate bowl.
- Beat heavy cream with vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Fold egg mixture into mascarpone, then gently fold in whipped cream until combined.
- Quickly dip ladyfingers into cooled espresso (1–2 seconds each) and arrange in a single layer in an 8×8-inch dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat with another layer of dipped ladyfingers and the remaining mascarpone cream.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
- Before serving, dust generously with cocoa powder.
Notes
- Dip ladyfingers briefly—oversoaking makes them soggy.
- Tiramisu is best made a day ahead for flavors to meld.
- Omit liqueur for an alcohol-free version.
- Use pasteurized eggs or cook yolks over a double boiler for safety.
- Individual ramekins make elegant single-serve portions.
