Description

Delight in these soft, fluffy Tasty Orange Rolls bursting with fresh orange flavor and a rich cream cheese glaze. Perfect for breakfast or a sweet snack, these rolls combine the zestiness of orange with the comforting warmth of freshly baked dough.

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1 tbsp instant dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp salted butter (softened)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups flour

Filling Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup salted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange zest

Glaze Ingredients

  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup salted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp orange juice

Instructions

  1. Activate Yeast: Combine the warm milk and orange juice in a bowl. Stir in the instant dry yeast and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the mixture is frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Prepare Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the salt, softened butter, egg, and the activated yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour and mix until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Prepare Filling: In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, sugar, and orange zest until well combined.
  5. Shape Rolls: Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle approximately 16×12 inches. Spread the orange butter filling evenly over the dough. Roll the dough tightly from the long side, forming a log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
  6. Second Rise: Arrange the rolls cut side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Cover and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Bake Rolls: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  8. Make Glaze: While the rolls are baking, beat together the cream cheese and butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and orange juice until the glaze is smooth and spreadable.
  9. Glaze and Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. Drizzle or spread the cream cheese glaze generously over the warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Use fresh orange juice and zest for the best citrus flavor.
  • Make sure the milk is warm but not hot to activate yeast properly without killing it.
  • For a fluffier texture, you can let the dough rise a bit longer if needed.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated gently before serving.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or freeze for longer storage.
