Ingredients
Dough and Filling
- 1 (8 oz.) tube crescent roll dough
- 4 oz. cream cheese (for filling)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 2 cups strawberries, chopped
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons turbinado or raw sugar
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons cream cheese
- 1-2 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
- Prepare Dough: Roll out the crescent dough directly on the parchment paper and firmly pinch together any holes or perforations to create an even surface.
- Make Cream Cheese Filling: In a bowl, beat 4 oz. cream cheese with 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar until creamy, then spread this mixture in the center of the dough, leaving about 4 inches of dough free on each side.
- Prepare Strawberry Filling: Rinse and chop the strawberries. Toss them with the remaining 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar and cornstarch to coat evenly, then spread the coated strawberries over the cream cheese layer.
- Braid the Dough: Fold the dough ends over the strawberries gently, then cut 1-inch diagonal strips along the sides of the dough and fold them alternately over the filling to create a braid that encases the berries completely. Sprinkle the braid with turbinado or raw sugar for a crunchy topping.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
- Make Glaze: While the braid bakes, mix powdered sugar, cream cheese, and 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth and creamy.
- Finish and Serve: Once the braid is out of the oven and slightly cooled, drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the top, slice into servings, and enjoy warm.
Notes
- Make sure to pinch the crescent dough tightly to prevent the filling from leaking out during baking.
- You can substitute strawberries with other berries like blueberries or raspberries for variation.
- The glaze can be adjusted by adding more milk for a thinner consistency or more powdered sugar for thickness.
- Use chilled cream cheese for easier mixing and smoother texture.
- For a dairy-free option, substitute cream cheese with vegan cream cheese and use plant-based milk in the glaze.
