Ingredients
Pastry
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
Cheese Filling
- 5 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 1/2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch salt
Egg Wash
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s ready for baking the danish pastry.
- Prepare Cheese Filling: In a bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Cut Puff Pastry: Unroll the thawed puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal rectangles. Arrange these on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Pipe Cheese Mixture: Transfer the cream cheese filling into a piping bag and cut off the tip. Pipe a thick line of the mixture down the center of each puff pastry rectangle.
- Prepare Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water until blended. This will help give the pastry edges a golden, shiny finish.
- Brush Edges: Using a pastry brush, brush the egg wash along the edges of each puff pastry rectangle to help them brown evenly and develop a beautiful crust.
- Bake Pastries: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes or until the pastries are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the danish pastries from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to cool slightly before serving to maintain their crispness.
Notes
- Make sure the puff pastry is fully thawed before working with it to prevent cracking.
- You can dust the finished danishes with powdered sugar or drizzle with a light glaze for extra sweetness.
- If you don’t have a piping bag, use a zip-top plastic bag and snip off one corner to pipe the filling.
- Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
