Description

These Salted Honey Cookies offer a delightful balance of sweet and salty flavors, combining the natural sweetness of honey with a hint of flaky sea salt on top. Soft and chewy with a subtle cinnamon undertone, these cookies are perfect for any occasion and easy to make with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon (optional)

Topping

  • Flaky sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Mix wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, beat together the softened butter, honey, and brown sugar until light and creamy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth and well incorporated.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using). Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a soft dough forms.
  3. Chill the dough: Cover the dough and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Chilling deepens the flavor and prevents spreading during baking.
  4. Preheat oven and prepare sheet: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Scoop and bake: Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and place them on the sheet, spaced about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are just set.
  6. Add sea salt topping: Immediately after removing from the oven, sprinkle the warm cookies with a pinch of flaky sea salt for a perfect salty-sweet contrast.
  7. Cool: Let the cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For deeper flavor, ensure the butter is fully softened before mixing.
  • Optional cinnamon adds a warm spice note but can be omitted if preferred.
  • Refrigerating the dough is important for controlling spread and enhancing texture.
  • Use flaky sea salt for the best texture and flavor contrast.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days.
