Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- 1/2 stick (4 tablespoons) butter
- 10 oz bag marshmallows
- 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
Additional Ingredients
- 10 oz bag Kraft’s caramel bits
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Melt Butter: Place the 1/2 stick of butter in a large pot over medium-low heat and let it melt completely.
- Add Marshmallows: Add the entire 10 oz bag of marshmallows to the melted butter and stir gently until the marshmallows melt and become gooey, creating a smooth mixture.
- Incorporate Cereal: Add 5 cups of Rice Krispies cereal to the pot. Turn off the stove and stir well to combine the cereal evenly with the marshmallow mixture.
- Add Caramel Bits: Remove the pot from the heat completely. Introduce the caramel bits and fold them into the mixture thoroughly.
- Transfer to Pan: Gently spread the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch pan. Avoid pressing down too firmly to maintain a soft, chewy texture.
- Finish with Salt: Sprinkle salt evenly on top of the treats to enhance the salted caramel flavor. Let the treats cool and set before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Use medium-low heat to prevent marshmallows from burning.
- Pressing the treats too hard when spreading can make them tough instead of chewy.
- For extra gooeyness, microwave the caramel bits briefly before mixing if desired.
- Sprinkle sea salt for the best contrast in flavor.
- Store in an airtight container to keep treats fresh for up to 3 days.
