Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp red food coloring
- 1 tsp white vinegar
- 1/4 cup buttermilk or plain yogurt
- Optional: 1/2 cup white chocolate chips or sweetened cream cheese for swirl
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch pan with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix melted butter and sugar until combined. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla, food coloring, and vinegar.
- Mix in buttermilk or yogurt until smooth.
- Fold in dry ingredients until a thick batter forms.
- Spread batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Optional: Sprinkle white chocolate chips or swirl in dollops of sweetened cream cheese.
- Bake 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool completely before slicing into squares.
Notes
- Do not overbake—brownies should be fudgy, not dry.
- For natural coloring, beet powder can be used instead of food dye.
- Cream cheese frosting is a delicious topping option.
- Recipe can be doubled and baked in a 9×13-inch pan.
