Description

The Pastrami Sandwich combines tender pastrami with sharp mustard, pickles, and optional Swiss cheese, all nestled between two slices of toasted rye bread. A classic deli favorite that delivers bold flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 2 slices rye bread (or your preferred bread)
    68 ounces pastrami, sliced
1 tablespoon yellow mustard (or spicy mustard, if preferred)
23 pickle slices (dill or bread-and-butter)
    1 slice Swiss cheese (optional)
    1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)

Instructions

  1. Toast the rye bread slices lightly, if desired, to add a crispy texture to the sandwich.
  2. Spread mustard on one side of each slice of bread. If you like, you can also spread a thin layer of mayonnaise for added creaminess.
  3. Pile the pastrami onto one slice of bread, making sure to distribute it evenly.
  4. Add the Swiss cheese slice (if using) on top of the pastrami.
  5. Place the pickle slices on top of the cheese or pastrami for added crunch and tang.
  6. Top with the second slice of bread, mustard side down.
  7. Slice the sandwich in half, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Cheese options: You can use other cheeses such as cheddar, provolone, or even American cheese to complement the pastrami.
  • Add coleslaw: For a twist on the classic, add a scoop of creamy coleslaw to your sandwich for extra texture and flavor.
  • Hot pastrami: If you prefer a warm sandwich, heat the pastrami in a pan before assembling the sandwich to make it even more indulgent.
  • Spicy kick: Add some hot sauce or spicy mustard to bring some heat to the sandwich.
  • Different bread: While rye is traditional, you can use other types of bread like sourdough, baguette, or even a hoagie roll for a different style.
