Description
The Pastrami Sandwich combines tender pastrami with sharp mustard, pickles, and optional Swiss cheese, all nestled between two slices of toasted rye bread. A classic deli favorite that delivers bold flavors in every bite.
Ingredients
- 2 slices rye bread (or your preferred bread)
6–8 ounces pastrami, sliced
1 tablespoon yellow mustard (or spicy mustard, if preferred)
2–3 pickle slices (dill or bread-and-butter)
1 slice Swiss cheese (optional)
1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional)
Instructions
- Toast the rye bread slices lightly, if desired, to add a crispy texture to the sandwich.
- Spread mustard on one side of each slice of bread. If you like, you can also spread a thin layer of mayonnaise for added creaminess.
- Pile the pastrami onto one slice of bread, making sure to distribute it evenly.
- Add the Swiss cheese slice (if using) on top of the pastrami.
- Place the pickle slices on top of the cheese or pastrami for added crunch and tang.
- Top with the second slice of bread, mustard side down.
- Slice the sandwich in half, and serve immediately.
Notes
- Cheese options: You can use other cheeses such as cheddar, provolone, or even American cheese to complement the pastrami.
- Add coleslaw: For a twist on the classic, add a scoop of creamy coleslaw to your sandwich for extra texture and flavor.
- Hot pastrami: If you prefer a warm sandwich, heat the pastrami in a pan before assembling the sandwich to make it even more indulgent.
- Spicy kick: Add some hot sauce or spicy mustard to bring some heat to the sandwich.
- Different bread: While rye is traditional, you can use other types of bread like sourdough, baguette, or even a hoagie roll for a different style.
