Ingredients
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup orange juice (fresh or bottled)
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cornstarch or 1 tsp gelatin (optional, for thickening swirl)
- Optional: 1/4 tsp orange extract for stronger flavor
- Optional: a few drops orange food coloring
Instructions
In a small saucepan, heat orange juice, zest, and sugar until sugar dissolves. Simmer for a few minutes until slightly thickened. Add cornstarch or gelatin if using. Let cool completely.
- In a large bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- In another bowl, combine sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. Fold whipped cream into mixture gently until smooth.
- Pour half the cream mixture into a loaf pan. Spoon some orange swirl over it. Repeat layers. Use a knife to gently swirl.
- Cover and freeze at least 6 hours or overnight until firm.
- Before serving, let sit at room temperature for 5–10 minutes. Scoop and enjoy with extra zest if desired.
Notes
- Freshly squeezed orange juice gives the best flavor.
- Food coloring is optional and only for presentation.
- Let ice cream rest briefly before scooping for smoother texture.
- Do not repeatedly thaw and refreeze to avoid icy texture.
