Ingredients
- 4 large sweet onions (Vidalia or yellow onions)
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Onions: Peel and trim the root end slightly to stabilize. Cut a small well in the top of each onion and add 1 tbsp butter inside.
- Cook the Onions: In a large pot or deep skillet, add broth, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Bring to a boil, then simmer. Place the onions, cut side up, into the pot and cover.
- Simmer to Perfection: Let the onions simmer for 45-60 minutes, basting occasionally with broth until fork-tender.
