Description

Delight in these irresistible Nutella Puff Pastry Pies, featuring flaky, golden puff pastry filled with creamy Nutella and crunchy hazelnuts, topped with a sprinkle of raw sugar for a perfect sweet crunch. This quick and easy recipe yields 6 deliciously warm pies, ideal for a cozy dessert or a special treat anytime.

Ingredients

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed (homemade or store bought)

Filling & Topping

  • 3/4 cup Nutella
  • 3 Tbsp roughly chopped hazelnuts
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 Tbsp raw sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400˚F (200˚C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Lightly flour a clean work surface and gently roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut the sheet in half lengthwise, then cut horizontally to create 6 equal squares.
  3. Add Nutella Filling: Spread about 2 tablespoons of Nutella over half of each pastry square, leaving a border around the edges for sealing.
  4. Add Hazelnuts: Sprinkle the roughly chopped hazelnuts evenly over the Nutella on each square.
  5. Brush Edges with Egg: Using a pastry brush, carefully brush the edges of the entire square with beaten egg to help seal the pastry when folded.
  6. Seal Pastry Pies: Fold the pastry over the Nutella half to form a triangle or rectangle, then press edges firmly with a fork to seal completely.
  7. Egg Wash and Sugar Topping: Brush the tops of the sealed pastries with beaten egg for a golden finish. Sprinkle the tops with raw sugar for added texture and sweetness.
  8. Vent Pastry Tops: Using a sharp knife, cut three small slits in the top of each pastry to allow steam to escape during baking.
  9. Bake: Place the prepared pastries on the lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  10. Cool and Serve: Allow the pies to cool for a few minutes on the pan before serving warm to enjoy the gooey Nutella filling.

Notes

  • Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed but still cool to make handling easier.
  • Be careful not to overfill the pastries with Nutella to avoid leakage during baking.
  • Use raw sugar to add a crunchy texture; substitute with granulated sugar if unavailable.
  • These pies are best enjoyed warm but can be reheated briefly in the oven for optimal texture.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container; consume within 2 days for freshness.
