Description

This No Bake Banana Pudding Cups recipe offers a creamy, delightful treat combining layers of instant banana pudding, cream cheese cheesecake, whipped topping, sliced bananas, and vanilla wafers. Perfect for a quick dessert that requires no oven time, it’s ideal for serving individual cups or a large trifle. The pudding layers soften vanilla wafers while the creamy cheesecake layer adds richness, making it a crowd-pleaser for gatherings or family desserts.

Ingredients

Banana Pudding

  • 2 (3.4-ounce) packages instant banana pudding (or vanilla or your favorite flavor)
  • 4 cups cold milk

Cheesecake Layer

  • 1 (8-ounce) brick cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (12-ounce) tub whipped topping, thawed (reserve some for decoration)

Other Ingredients

  • 1 (15-ounce) box vanilla wafer cookies (divided, about 60 cookies)
  • 4-6 large bananas
  • Additional vanilla wafer cookies for garnish (crushed or whole)
  • Banana slices for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pudding: In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the instant banana pudding mix and cold milk until well combined. Cover the bowl and refrigerate until the pudding thickens, about 5 minutes.
  2. Make the Cheesecake Layer: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Add 1 1/2 cups of the whipped topping and beat until fully blended. Set aside the remaining whipped topping for decorating later.
  3. Slice the Bananas: Peel and slice the bananas into ½-inch thick rounds. If preparing the dessert in advance, wait to slice the bananas just before assembling or serving to prevent browning.
  4. Prepare Cups or Trifle: For individual servings, use 9 oz cups (about 20). For a large trifle, use a 3-quart 9×13-inch glass dish.
  5. Crush Vanilla Wafers (for cups): Crush 30 vanilla wafer cookies in a resealable bag until chunky textured.
  6. Layer Cups – Bottom Cookies: Divide crushed cookies evenly among the bottoms of each cup.
  7. Add Pudding Layer: Spoon the chilled pudding evenly on top of the crushed cookie layer in each cup.
  8. Top with More Cookies: Crush remaining 30 cookies and evenly divide among the cups on top of the pudding.
  9. Add Cheesecake Layer: Evenly spoon the cheesecake mixture on top of cookies in all cups.
  10. Refrigerate: Cover the cups and refrigerate for 1-2 hours to allow the cookies to soften and layers to meld.
  11. Garnish with Bananas: Just before serving, lay 5-6 banana slices flat on the cheesecake layer in each cup.
  12. Add Whipped Topping and Final Garnish: Place a generous dollop or pipe the reserved whipped topping on each cup. Garnish with an extra vanilla wafer cookie and a banana slice if desired. Serve chilled.
  13. Large Pan Trifle Assembly: Line the bottom of the glass dish with a single layer of vanilla wafer cookies. Pour the prepared banana pudding evenly over the cookies and spread gently with a spatula. Add sliced bananas over the pudding layer.
  14. Add Cheesecake Layer in Trifle: Dollop cheesecake mixture over bananas and gently spread until evenly covering all bananas.
  15. Top with Cookies: Place an even layer of vanilla wafer cookies over the cheesecake layer.
  16. Decorate Trifle: Just before serving, pipe the reserved whipped topping onto the top of the trifle using a resealable bag with the corner cut off. Garnish with banana slices and crushed or whole vanilla wafers as desired.

Notes

  • Use ripe but firm bananas to avoid mushy texture.
  • For best results, prepare the dessert several hours ahead to allow cookies to soften and flavors to meld.
  • If making ahead, slice bananas just before assembly or serving to prevent browning.
  • Reserve some whipped topping for attractive garnishing at serving time.
  • This recipe is easily adaptable to individual servings or a single large trifle dish.
  • You can substitute cream cheese with mascarpone for a richer texture.
