Description

Mississippi Mud Pie is a rich, layered dessert featuring a crunchy chocolate cookie crust, a fudgy chocolate filling, and a generous topping of whipped cream. This crowd-pleasing pie is a chocolate lover’s dream, perfect for holidays or casual indulgence.

Ingredients

  1. 24 Oreo cookies or chocolate wafer cookies, finely crushed
  2. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for crust)
  3. 6 oz semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  4. 1/2 cup heavy cream (for filling)
  5. 1/2 cup unsalted butter (for filling)
  6. 3 large eggs
  7. 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  8. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  9. 1 1/2 cups whipped cream (for topping)
  10. Optional toppings: chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, shaved chocolate

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). In a medium bowl, mix crushed cookies with melted butter. Press into a 9-inch pie pan and bake for 8–10 minutes. Let cool.

  1. In a saucepan, melt chocolate, butter, and heavy cream over low heat until smooth. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, and vanilla. Slowly whisk in the melted chocolate mixture until well blended.
  3. Pour the filling into the cooled crust. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until edges are set and center jiggles slightly.
  4. Let the pie cool on a rack, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  5. Before serving, top with whipped cream. Garnish with optional nuts, chocolate shavings, or mini chips.
  6. Slice with a warm knife for clean cuts. Serve chilled or at cool room temperature.

Notes

  • Use bittersweet chocolate for deeper flavor; semisweet for a sweeter profile.
  • Bake crust for better texture and flavor; chilling alone may lead to a crumbly base.
  • Whipped cream topping can be stabilized with a bit of confectioners’ sugar or mascarpone.
  • For cleaner slices, chill thoroughly and use a knife warmed in hot water and wiped dry.
  • Add espresso powder or peanut butter swirl for variations in flavor.
