Description
Milky Way Bars are an easy, homemade version of the classic candy, featuring fluffy nougat, gooey caramel, and a rich chocolate topping. This no-candy-thermometer recipe delivers nostalgic flavor in every bite—perfect for holidays, parties, or sweet cravings.
Ingredients
1½ cups milk chocolate chips
1 jar (7 oz) marshmallow creme
⅓ cup evaporated milk
1 cup granulated sugar
¼ cup unsalted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 (11 oz) bag caramel candies, unwrapped
2 tbsp heavy cream
Optional: sea salt for topping
Instructions
-
Make the Nougat Layer: In a saucepan, combine sugar, evaporated milk, and butter. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 4-5 minutes. Stir in marshmallow creme and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour into a greased or parchment-lined 8×8 or 9×9-inch pan and spread evenly.
-
Cool the Nougat: Refrigerate for 20–30 minutes to set.
-
Add the Caramel Layer: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt caramel candies with heavy cream in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Pour over the nougat and spread evenly. Chill again for 20–30 minutes.
-
Top with Chocolate: Melt milk chocolate chips until smooth, then spread over the caramel layer. Optional: sprinkle sea salt.
-
Slice and Serve: Once fully set, cut into bars or squares. Serve cold or at room temperature.
Notes
-
Use dark chocolate chips for a richer flavor variation.
-
Substitute mini marshmallows + butter if marshmallow creme isn’t available.
-
For extra crunch, layer in crushed peanuts between nougat and caramel.
-
A warm knife makes slicing cleaner.
-
Best served slightly chilled for firmer texture.
