Description

Maple Walnut Cut Out Cookies are crisp-edged, tender-centered cookies flavored with pure maple syrup and finely chopped walnuts. Perfect for decorative cut-outs, they’re a delicious and elegant addition to any cookie tray.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract; beat until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the finely chopped walnuts.
  6. Divide the dough into two discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one disc of dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  9. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes and place them 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until the edges begin to turn golden.
  11. Cool on the baking sheet for 2–3 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. Decorate as desired or serve plain.

Notes

  • Drizzle with a maple glaze made from powdered sugar and maple syrup for extra sweetness.
  • Add cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough for a spiced variation.
  • Omit walnuts for a nut-free version.
  • Use royal icing or sanding sugar for festive decorating.
  • Freeze baked cookies or dough for make-ahead convenience.
