Description

Honey sesame chicken is a sweet, sticky, and savory favorite that’s better than takeout! Tender chicken pieces are coated in a golden crisp crust and tossed in a luscious honey sesame sauce. Ready in just 30 minutes, this easy homemade recipe is perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces

  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

  • Oil for frying

  • 1/3 cup soy sauce

  • 1/4 cup honey

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

  • Green onions, sliced (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  • Prep Chicken: Coat chicken pieces in cornstarch until fully coated.

  • Fry: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry chicken in batches until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  • Make Sauce: In a pan, combine soy sauce, honey, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and water. Simmer until the sauce thickens slightly.

  • Combine: Add fried chicken to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.

  • Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Lighter Option: Bake or air-fry the chicken instead of deep frying.

  • Make It Spicy: Add chili flakes or sriracha to the sauce for a kick.

  • Vegetarian Version: Swap chicken for tofu or cauliflower.

  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to a month.

  • Reheating: Best reheated in a skillet to retain crispiness.
