Description
Homemade apple fritters are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with tender apple chunks. Finished with a sweet vanilla glaze, they’re the perfect fall treat for breakfast or dessert.
Ingredients
- For the fritters:
- 2 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 2/3 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk or cream
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Peel, core, and dice apples into small chunks. Set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Drop heaping spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, 2–3 at a time. Fry for 3–4 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Use a slotted spoon to transfer fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
- Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth to make the glaze.
- Dip warm fritters in glaze or drizzle over the top. Let set briefly before serving.
Notes
- Fritters are best enjoyed fresh the same day they’re made.
- Use a thermometer to maintain oil at 350°F to avoid greasy or undercooked fritters.
- Add a pinch of nutmeg or apple pie spice for extra fall flavor.
- Dust with cinnamon sugar instead of glaze for a different finish.
