Description

Homemade apple fritters are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and packed with tender apple chunks. Finished with a sweet vanilla glaze, they’re the perfect fall treat for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

  1. For the fritters:
  2. 2 cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  3. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  4. 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  5. 2 teaspoons baking powder
  6. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  7. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  8. 2 large eggs
  9. 2/3 cup whole milk
  10. 2 tablespoons melted butter
  11. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  12. Vegetable oil (for frying)
  13. For the glaze:
  14. 1 cup powdered sugar
  15. 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  16. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Peel, core, and dice apples into small chunks. Set aside.

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drop heaping spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, 2–3 at a time. Fry for 3–4 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to transfer fritters to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  7. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth to make the glaze.
  8. Dip warm fritters in glaze or drizzle over the top. Let set briefly before serving.

Notes

  • Fritters are best enjoyed fresh the same day they’re made.
  • Use a thermometer to maintain oil at 350°F to avoid greasy or undercooked fritters.
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg or apple pie spice for extra fall flavor.
  • Dust with cinnamon sugar instead of glaze for a different finish.
