Description

Homemade apple fritters are golden, crispy pastries filled with fresh apple chunks, spiced batter, and topped with a sweet glaze. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, these treats are bakery-style favorites you can easily make at home.

Ingredients

    1. For the fritters:
    2. 2 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or a mix), peeled and diced
    3. 2 cups all-purpose flour
    4. 1/3 cup granulated sugar
    5. 2 teaspoons baking powder
    6. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    7. 1/2 teaspoon salt
    8. 2 large eggs
    9. 2/3 cup whole milk
    10. 2 tablespoons melted butter
    11. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    12. Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or sunflower)

  1. For the glaze:
  2. 1 cup powdered sugar
  3. 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  4. 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Peel, core, and dice apples into small chunks. Set aside.

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla until combined.
  3. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Fold in the chopped apples.
  5. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a heavy skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Drop heaping spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, 2–3 at a time. Fry for 3–4 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Remove fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to make the glaze.
  9. Drizzle or dip fritters in glaze while still warm. Let set and serve.

Notes

  1. Use a thermometer to keep the oil around 350°F to avoid greasy fritters.
  2. Add a pinch of nutmeg or apple pie spice for extra flavor depth.
  3. Best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored up to 3 days refrigerated.
  4. Skip the glaze and dust with cinnamon sugar for a classic twist.
