Description

These festive Grinch Crinkle Cookies are soft, chewy, and bursting with holiday cheer. Made from a simple cake mix base colored bright green and rolled in powdered sugar, these cookies perfectly combine ease and fun. Topped with a charming jumbo heart sprinkle, they’re ideal for Christmas parties or gifting.

Ingredients

Cookie Dough

  • 1 box vanilla or yellow cake mix
  • ½ cup oil
  • 2 eggs
  • Green food coloring (quantity as needed for desired color)

For Rolling and Topping

  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
  • Jumbo heart sprinkles (for decorating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheets: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper and set them aside to use later.
  2. Make the Dough: In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine the dry cake mix, oil, and eggs. Mix on medium speed for about two minutes until the batter is smooth and well incorporated.
  3. Add Green Food Coloring: Gradually add green food coloring to the dough and mix until you achieve your preferred festive shade of green.
  4. Chill the Dough: Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 1 hour or in the freezer for about 30 minutes. The dough should be cool to the touch and no longer sticky, which makes it easier to handle.
  5. Form and Roll Cookies: Scoop out golf-ball sized portions of dough and roll each ball generously in powdered sugar. Place the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about two inches of space between each cookie to allow for spreading.
  6. Bake Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes. Cookies are ready when the edges are set and the centers have lost their shiny appearance.
  7. Add Heart Sprinkles: Immediately after baking, gently press a jumbo heart sprinkle onto the upper right corner of each cookie to resemble the location of the heart on the Grinch’s body.
  8. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. The cookies will continue to set as they cool.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of green food coloring depending on how vibrant you want your cookies.
  • Use parchment paper or silicone mats to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  • Chilling the dough helps control spreading and makes the rolling in powdered sugar easier.
  • For extra festive fun, use other Christmas-themed sprinkles or decorations.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
