Ingredients
Coating Mixture
- 12-ounce box Corn Flakes cereal
- 1/2 cup Salted butter
- 1 cup Brown sugar
- 1 to 2 Tablespoons Cinnamon
Ice Cream
- 1/2 gallon Vanilla ice cream
Toppings (Optional)
- Honey
- Caramel sauce
- Whipped cream
- Maraschino cherries
- Strawberries (fresh, diced and tossed in sugar)
- Chocolate syrup
- Dulce de leche
- Sweetened coconut
Instructions
- Crush the Corn Flakes: While still in the package, crush the corn flakes using a rolling pin until broken into small flakes, ensuring an even texture for coating.
- Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar Mixture: Melt the salted butter over medium heat in a medium saucepan, then add brown sugar and cinnamon. Cook for about 4-5 minutes until the mixture becomes bubbly and the sugar is completely smooth and dissolved.
- Coat the Corn Flakes: Stir the crushed corn flakes into the butter and sugar mixture until they are well coated. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool completely to avoid melting the ice cream later.
- Form Ice Cream Balls: Scoop firm vanilla ice cream using an ice cream scoop, then quickly roll each scoop with clean hands to form balls about the size of a baseball for uniform portions.
- Coat Ice Cream Balls: Roll each ice cream ball thoroughly in the cooled corn flake mixture. Make sure they are evenly coated to create a crisp crust after freezing.
- Freeze the Ice Cream Balls: Place the coated ice cream balls on a wax paper or parchment-lined tray and freeze for 1 to 2 hours or overnight until they are firm and ready to serve.
- Serve with Toppings: When ready to serve, drizzle the fried ice cream balls with honey or caramel sauce, add a dollop of fresh whipped cream, and top with a maraschino cherry. Optionally, add fresh diced strawberries tossed in sugar, sweetened coconut, chocolate syrup, or dulce de leche for extra flavor.
Notes
- Ensure the corn flake mixture is fully cooled before coating the ice cream to prevent melting.
- Firmly freeze the ice cream balls after coating for best results; this ensures the coating stays crunchy.
- Optional toppings can be customized to your taste preferences.
- If desired, the corn flake coating can be lightly toasted in the oven before mixing with the butter mixture for an extra crunch.
- Keep the ice cream balls covered in the freezer when not in use to avoid freezer burn.
