Description
French Toast is a classic breakfast favorite with a golden-brown, crispy exterior and a soft, custardy interior. This simple, comforting dish is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a light snack, and can be topped with maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- 4 slices of bread (preferably thick, like brioche or challah)
- 1 tbsp butter (for frying)
- Maple syrup, for serving (optional)
- Powdered sugar, for serving (optional)
- Fresh berries or fruit, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon (if using), and a pinch of salt until smooth.
- Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt the butter, swirling it around to coat the surface.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are coated. Let the excess drip off before placing the bread in the skillet.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the skillet and serve immediately with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.
Notes
- For extra flavor, sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top of the cooked French Toast.
- For stuffed French Toast, add cream cheese, Nutella, or fruit between the slices before cooking.
- For savory French Toast, skip the cinnamon and vanilla extract, and top with cheese, ham, or avocado.
- For a dairy-free version, use almond milk and a plant-based butter substitute.
