Description

French Toast is a classic breakfast favorite with a golden-brown, crispy exterior and a soft, custardy interior. This simple, comforting dish is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or a light snack, and can be topped with maple syrup, fresh berries, or whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 4 slices of bread (preferably thick, like brioche or challah)
  • 1 tbsp butter (for frying)
  • Maple syrup, for serving (optional)
  • Powdered sugar, for serving (optional)
  • Fresh berries or fruit, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon (if using), and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  2. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt the butter, swirling it around to coat the surface.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, making sure both sides are coated. Let the excess drip off before placing the bread in the skillet.
  4. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Remove from the skillet and serve immediately with maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top of the cooked French Toast.
  • For stuffed French Toast, add cream cheese, Nutella, or fruit between the slices before cooking.
  • For savory French Toast, skip the cinnamon and vanilla extract, and top with cheese, ham, or avocado.
  • For a dairy-free version, use almond milk and a plant-based butter substitute.
