These Cinnamon Apple Tarts are an easy yet elegant dessert featuring flaky puff pastry topped with warm, spiced apple slices. Perfect for fall, holidays, or weeknight treats, they bake up golden and irresistible every time.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- All-purpose flour (for dusting)
- Powdered sugar (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry and cut into 6–8 rectangles or desired shapes.
- In a bowl, toss apple slices with lemon juice, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Layer apple slices neatly over the pastry pieces, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Dot the apples with small pieces of butter and brush pastry edges with egg wash.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the pastry is golden and puffed, and the apples are tender.
- Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar or serve with ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
- Use firm apples for best texture after baking.
- Don’t overload the pastry to avoid sogginess.
- Cut pastry into circles for a more refined look or tart pans for a more structured shape.
- These tarts taste best warm but can be enjoyed at room temperature too.
- Reheat in the oven, not the microwave, to maintain crispness.
