Description
Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, these waffles are the perfect treat for breakfast or brunch. Quick and easy to make, this recipe can be customized with a variety of toppings.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 3/4 cups milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional: 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
- In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if the batter is a bit lumpy.
- Lightly grease the waffle iron with cooking spray or butter.
- Pour an appropriate amount of batter into the waffle iron, depending on its size, and cook according to your waffle iron’s instructions, typically around 3-5 minutes.
- Once the waffles are golden brown and crispy, remove them from the waffle iron and serve immediately with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- For chocolate chip waffles, add 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to the batter.
- For banana waffles, mash a ripe banana and add it to the batter.
- For a healthier alternative, substitute all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour.
- To make it gluten-free, use a gluten-free flour blend.
- Waffles can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
- To reheat, use a toaster or oven to restore crispiness.
