Description
This Easy Spiced Apple Mug Cake is a quick, single-serving dessert with tender apple pieces, warm spices, and a soft, moist crumb. Made in the microwave in minutes, it’s perfect for a cozy, no-fuss treat.
Ingredients
- 1/4 fresh apple, sliced or grated
- 2 tbsp salted butter, divided
- 2 tbsp brown sugar (plus 1 tsp for topping)
- 2 tbsp milk
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp apple pie spice (plus a pinch for topping)
- Optional: caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream, or whipped cream for garnish
Instructions
In a microwave-safe mug, combine half of the apple slices with 1 tbsp butter, 1 tbsp brown sugar, and a pinch of apple pie spice. Microwave for about 30 seconds to soften and caramelize apples.
- In a small bowl, melt remaining 1 tbsp butter, then mix with 1 tbsp brown sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
- Stir in flour, baking powder, and 1/4 tsp apple pie spice until just combined.
- Pour batter over softened apples in the mug. Top with remaining apple slices, 1 tsp brown sugar, a pinch of spice, and a small pat of butter.
- Microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes, until cake puffs up and sets.
- Cool slightly before serving. Optional: drizzle with caramel sauce and top with ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- Use a large mug to prevent overflow; fill only halfway before microwaving.
- Grated apple will create a moister cake, while sliced gives more texture.
- Adjust spice levels to taste—cinnamon works well as a substitute for apple pie spice.
- Overcooking can cause dryness; check cake at 1 minute 30 seconds.
