Description
This easy croffle recipe combines the flakiness of a croissant with the crispiness of a waffle. Using refrigerated croissant dough cooked in a waffle iron, this versatile treat can be topped with powdered sugar, fresh fruit, Nutella, or whipped cream for a delicious breakfast or snack in just minutes.
Ingredients
Croffle Base
- Refrigerated Croissant Dough (store-bought or homemade)
- Belgian Pearl Sugar (optional)
- Non-stick Cooking Spray
Toppings
- Powdered Sugar
- Fresh Fruit (e.g., berries, banana slices)
- Nutella
- Biscoff Spread
- Homemade Whipped Cream
Instructions
- Prepare the Dough: Remove refrigerated croissant dough from the fridge. If using frozen dough, thaw and proof according to package instructions. Shape refrigerated dough into croissants if needed before cooking.
- Preheat Your Waffle Iron: Set waffle iron to medium heat to ensure the croffle cooks through without burning.
- Grease the Waffle Iron: Lightly spray the heating plates with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Add Sugar Pearls (Optional): Optionally press Belgian Pearl Sugar evenly on one side of the dough for added crunch and sweetness. Alternatively, powdered sugar can be sprinkled after cooking.
- Cook the Croffle: Place dough in the center of the heated waffle iron, close the lid, and cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Check for Doneness: The croffle is ready when the edges are crisp and the inside is tender, flaky, and cooked through.
- Finish and Serve: Remove from the iron, sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired, and let cool on a wire rack. Top with your favorite toppings like fresh fruit, Nutella, or whipped cream.
Notes
- Cooking times may vary based on waffle iron and dough thickness; adjust accordingly.
- If you don’t have Belgian Pearl Sugar, feel free to skip it and just use powdered sugar after cooking.
- Try topping your croffles with a variety of spreads and fresh fruit for different flavor combinations.
- Serve immediately for best texture as croffles are crispiest when fresh.
