Description
This Easy Berry Chia Seed Jam is a quick and healthy homemade jam made from frozen raspberries and blueberries, chia seeds, and natural sweeteners. It’s a nutritious, no-cook jam that’s simple to prepare, perfect for toast, pancakes, waffles, or as a topping for yogurt and granola.
Ingredients
Fruit
- 10 to 12 ounces (around 2 ½ cups) frozen raspberries, preferably organic
- 10 to 12 ounces (around 2 ¼ cups) frozen blueberries, preferably organic or wild
Chia & Liquid
- ¼ cup chia seeds
- 2 tablespoons orange juice (about ½ medium orange, juiced)
Sweetener (Optional)
- Up to 4 tablespoons maple syrup, to taste
Instructions
- Combine ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, mix the frozen raspberries, frozen blueberries, chia seeds, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Cover the bowl and let it defrost at room temperature for about three hours or refrigerate overnight on the front of the bottom shelf for optimal warmth and defrosting.
- Mash mixture: Once defrosted and softened, use a potato masher, back of a large spoon, or serving fork to mash the berry mixture to your preferred consistency. For a textured jam, mash lightly.
- Sweeten if desired: Taste the jam, and if you prefer it sweeter, stir in maple syrup gradually to your liking. If the chia seeds haven’t fully absorbed moisture and become plump, allow the mixture to rest for about 20 minutes.
- Serve and store: Enjoy the jam on toast, pancakes, waffles, bagels, or as a topping for yogurt and granola. Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
Notes
- This jam is naturally thickened by chia seeds without any cooking.
- You can substitute honey for maple syrup if preferred.
- Letting the jam sit longer helps chia seeds absorb moisture, improving texture.
- Use fresh orange juice for the best flavor, but bottled juice can work in a pinch.
- Keep refrigerated and consume within 5 days for optimal freshness.
