Description
Creamy Chocolate Mousse is a rich and airy dessert made with quality chocolate, whipped cream, and egg yolks, resulting in a silky, indulgent treat perfect for entertaining or satisfying chocolate cravings.
Ingredients
- 6 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3 large egg yolks
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- Optional toppings: whipped cream, chocolate shavings, berries
Instructions
Melt the chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over simmering water (double boiler method), stirring until smooth. Let cool slightly.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Refrigerate until needed.
- In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks with granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until pale and thick.
- Gradually whisk the melted chocolate into the egg mixture, stirring constantly to combine without scrambling.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture in batches until fully incorporated and smooth.
- Spoon the mousse into serving glasses or bowls and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until set.
- Serve chilled with whipped cream, berries, or chocolate shavings as desired.
Notes
- Let melted chocolate cool slightly before mixing to avoid scrambling the eggs.
- Use pasteurized eggs if concerned about raw yolks.
- For deeper flavor, use chocolate with 60–70% cocoa content.
- Can be made a day ahead and kept refrigerated.
- Fold whipped cream gently to preserve the mousse’s airy texture.
