Description

Chocolate mousse is a light, airy, and decadent no-bake dessert made with rich chocolate, whipped cream, and fluffy egg whites. It’s elegant yet easy, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 6 oz bittersweet or semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Instructions

Melt chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or in the microwave in short bursts, stirring until smooth. Let cool slightly.

  1. In a bowl, beat the egg yolks with half the sugar (2 tbsp) until thick and pale.
  2. Stir the melted chocolate into the egg yolk mixture until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Set aside.
  4. In a clean bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add the remaining sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
  5. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until almost combined.
  6. Fold in the beaten egg whites in two additions until fully incorporated and smooth.
  7. Spoon the mousse into serving dishes or glasses. Chill for at least 2 hours or until set.
  8. Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries before serving, if desired.

Notes

  1. Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and texture.
  2. For safety, use pasteurized eggs if concerned about raw egg consumption.
  3. Chill for at least 2 hours for optimal texture.
  4. Fold gently to retain mousse’s lightness and prevent deflating the whipped cream and egg whites.
  5. Decorate with whipped cream, fruit, or shaved chocolate for presentation.
