Description

Deliciously rich Chocolate Frosted Cookies featuring a soft cocoa-infused cookie base topped with a creamy chocolate frosting and optional sprinkles, perfect for satisfying your chocolate cravings in a classic treat.

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 1 cup Butter (softened)
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 3/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 2 1/3 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Chocolate Frosting

  • 12 Tablespoons Salted Butter (3/4 cup or 1 1/2 sticks, softened)
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 3 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Light Corn Syrup
  • 3 to 4 Tablespoons Heavy Cream or Milk
  • Chocolate Sprinkles or any sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Cream Butter and Sugars: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, and brown sugar for about 4 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy. Periodically scrape down the sides of the bowl to ensure even mixing.
  2. Add Eggs and Vanilla: Incorporate the eggs and vanilla extract into the creamed mixture, mixing for an additional minute to blend thoroughly.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients and Mix: Gradually add the unsweetened cocoa powder, flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix just until combined to avoid overworking the dough. Then gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  4. Form Cookies on Baking Sheet: Spoon the cookie dough onto parchment paper-lined light-colored baking sheets, spacing the scoops at least two inches apart. To achieve flatter cookies, lightly press the dough balls down before baking.
  5. Bake Cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Be careful not to overbake as the cookies will continue baking slightly after removal. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet before frosting.
  6. Prepare Chocolate Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened salted butter for 1 to 2 minutes until smooth. Add the unsweetened cocoa powder, powdered sugar, light corn syrup, and 3 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk. Mix until the frosting is completely smooth and creamy. Add additional heavy cream or milk by tablespoon increments if needed to achieve spreading consistency.
  7. Frost and Decorate Cookies: Spread the chocolate frosting evenly over the cooled cookies. If desired, finish with a sprinkle of chocolate sprinkles or any preferred decorative sprinkles to add texture and visual appeal.

Notes

  • Ensure not to overbake the cookies to keep them soft and chewy.
  • Light-colored baking sheets help prevent burning on the bottom.
  • Adjust the amount of heavy cream or milk in the frosting to get your preferred thickness.
  • Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • You can substitute light corn syrup with honey or maple syrup for a natural alternative.
