Description

These Chocolate-Dipped Banana Bread Truffles are bite-sized, creamy treats made by combining moist banana bread crumbs with cream cheese, then coated in rich melted chocolate. Perfect for using up leftover banana bread, they offer a delightful combination of soft, flavorful centers and crisp chocolate shells. Ideal for parties, snacks, or a sweet indulgence, these truffles are easy to make and impressively delicious.

Ingredients

Truffle Mixture

  • 1 loaf Banana Bread (see note)
  • 6 ounces Cream Cheese, softened to room temperature

Chocolate Coating

  • 10 ounces Good-Quality Milk or Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar, roughly chopped (plus extra for grating, optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Banana Bread: Using a bread knife, slice off the crust of the banana bread to avoid tough outer pieces.
  2. Make the Mixture: Crumble the banana bread into very small pieces using your fingers or a fork in a medium mixing bowl. Add the softened cream cheese and mash together with a fork until you achieve a creamy, uniform consistency.
  3. Form the Truffles: Using your hands, roll the banana bread and cream cheese mixture into balls about 1-2 inches in diameter. This will yield roughly 50 truffles, but you can adjust the size to your preference.
  4. Chill the Truffles: Place the balls on a wax paper-lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or up to overnight to firm up.
  5. Melt the Chocolate: Melt the chocolate in the microwave or a double boiler, stirring every 10 to 20 seconds to ensure an even, smooth melt.
  6. Dip the Truffles: Working with a few truffles at a time, dip each chilled truffle into the melted chocolate. Use two forks to lift the truffle and allow excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.
  7. Set on Baking Sheet: Return the coated truffles to the baking sheet to cool and harden.
  8. Optional Garnish: If desired, grate some extra chocolate over the top of each truffle before the coating hardens for a decorative finish.
  9. Allow to Firm: Let truffles sit at room temperature until the chocolate hardens completely, then transfer them to the refrigerator.
  10. Store Properly: Keep the truffles refrigerated and serve chilled. They will stay fresh for up to 5 days.

Notes

  • You can use any homemade or store-bought banana bread, but a moist and flavorful loaf works best.
  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened to room temperature for easy mixing and smooth texture.
  • Adjust the size of the truffles depending on your preference; smaller truffles yield more pieces.
  • Use good-quality chocolate for the coating to get a smooth and rich finish.
  • If the chocolate hardens while dipping, gently reheat it to maintain a smooth consistency.
  • Storing the truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator maintains their freshness and texture.
