Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds beef sirloin, sliced into thin strips
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  • Prepare the Beef: Slice the beef sirloin into thin strips against the grain to ensure tenderness.
  • Stir-fry the Vegetables: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add bell pepper and onion, stir-frying for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp. Set aside.
  • Cook the Beef: Add the remaining oil to the skillet. Cook the beef strips for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally until browned.
  • Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth. Pour over the beef and stir to coat evenly.
  • Combine and Simmer: Return the vegetables to the skillet. Stir to combine and simmer for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  • Serve: Serve the Chinese Onion Pepper Steak hot over steamed rice or noodles.

Notes

  • Add extra veggies like snap peas or mushrooms for more texture and flavor.
  • Spice it up with red pepper flakes or fresh chilies for a spicy kick.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap soy sauce for tamari or coconut aminos.
