Description

Chai Spiced Sugar Cookies are soft, chewy sugar cookies infused with warm chai spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and ginger. Perfect for cozy moments, tea time, or holiday gifting.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional: Extra sugar mixed with chai spice blend for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a dough forms.
  6. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls.
  7. Optional: Roll each dough ball in chai-spiced sugar before placing on the baking sheet.
  8. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass or your fingers.
  9. Bake for 9–11 minutes, until edges are set and centers are slightly underbaked.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Use pre-mixed chai spice if preferred—ensure it’s fresh and unsweetened.
  • Chilling dough for 20–30 minutes helps control spreading and deepens flavor.
  • Add white chocolate chips or chopped nuts for texture variation.
  • For a vegan version, use plant-based butter and a flax egg.
  • Freeze dough balls for up to 3 months—bake from frozen with a few extra minutes.
