Ingredients
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup lime juice
1/4 cup orange juice
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup chopped cilantro (optional)
1–2 pounds flank steak or skirt steak
Instructions
-
In a medium-sized bowl, combine olive oil, lime juice, orange juice, minced garlic, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, cumin, chili powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Whisk until smooth and well blended.
-
If desired, stir in chopped cilantro for added freshness.
-
Place the steak in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it is fully coated.
-
Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to overnight for best flavor).
-
Before cooking, remove the steak from the marinade and allow it to come to room temperature.
-
Grill or sear the steak on high heat for 4-6 minutes per side, depending on your preferred level of doneness.
-
Let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing against the grain into thin strips.
Notes
-
Add heat: For spicier carne asada, incorporate chopped jalapeños or cayenne pepper.
-
Alternative meats: Besides flank or skirt steak, try using sirloin, rib-eye, or chicken.
-
Herb variations: If cilantro isn’t preferred, use fresh parsley or oregano.
-
Vegan option: Substitute with tofu or tempeh, and ensure the soy sauce is gluten-free if needed.
